As an extracurricular learning venue, OSTRALE offers a four-month programme that provides an opportunity to engage with contemporary art not only within the context of art lessons but also across different subjects, to experiment for oneself and to become artistically active.

Introduction for Educators

During this tour, we provide insights into our curatorial concept, which is based on a theoretical approach to current social issues, and introduce selected artists and their works.

Pupils lead guided tours
An extraordinary challenge: within just a few days, pupils develop their own guided tour, which they then lead for parents, teachers and fellow pupils.
With our support, the pupils design their own guided tour of the exhibition, in which all participants take turns to speak. The tour is to be designed subjectively and independently, giving pupils the opportunity to explore artworks that particularly appeal to them – works that move, fascinate, unsettle, anger them, or similar.
The self-designed tours can be publicly announced and conducted as part of the OSTRALE Biennale. This public appearance presents a particular challenge for the pupils, as they are given the opportunity to speak on a public platform. This significantly boosts their self-confidence and fosters an empathetic and reflective approach to art.
The pupils' individual approaches to the artworks give rise to new perspectives that can be presented and discussed collectively.
The workshop will be led by at least one art educator, who will be available to answer questions between the planning and presentation stages and will support the group during the guided tour.
At least one visit to OSTRALE is required in preparation. During the first visit, the pupils will be given an overview of the exhibition to create an open framework for engaging with the art. On this day, decisions should be made regarding one or more artworks, which can then be explored in depth during lessons.
OSTRALE provides the basic materials for this, such as the artists' CVs, information on the artworks and the curatorial concept; this includes group discussions with the curators and art educators.
The aim of the workshop is to develop an understanding of what constitutes a good and successful guided tour, how it is designed, and what considerations play a role in this. This includes, amongst other things, selecting and structuring a meaningful route through the exhibition, organising the content, and addressing how information can be conveyed clearly and comprehensibly.
There should be no more than one week between planning and delivery.
Duration: approx. 4 hours + delivery of the planned tour: 1.5 hours
Recommended age: 15 years and over
The workshop can be booked for private groups of up to 15 participants + teachers by prior arrangement for €200.00.
Special guided tours
In an age when our daily lives are characterised by sensory overload, a fast-paced lifestyle and alienation, we often lose touch with our senses. Through dance and music, OSTRALE offers opportunities to consciously engage our senses and experience the exhibition anew through sensory and physical approaches.
