Painting, sculpture, photography, sound, lighting, video, installation and performance art: The OSTRALE is an international festival that since 2007 shows every year during the summer months contemporary Art of every genre in Dresden’s Ostragehege in the rooms of the former Erlwein-slaughterhouses and outdoors. It is important to the organisers that works from local, national and international, established or less so, artists are shown. Thus aspiring artists are given the possibility to make themselves and their work available to the wider public.

In the eight years of its existence the OSTRALE has developed into a consistent, attractive place for the presentation for the market-independent presentation and the educational placement of international contemporary art in Dresden. About 200 artists from over 30 different countries annually have the opportunity to present their work on the grounds of the historically listed building of the former Dresden slaughterhouse – built by the architect Hans Erlwein – which was no longer used after reunification.

The OSTRALE is the host for the First and the Fifth Art Event / e1, e5
